Born in Istanbul, the pianist began her studies with Rana Erksan when she was five years old. In 1977, she became a student of Prof. Meral Yapali at the Istanbul Municipal Conservatory- now, University of Istanbul State Conservatory. Eser Bilgeman Sakir, who is also an alumni of the Private Istanbul German High School, has completed her Bachelors, Masters and Doctoral degrees with Honours at the University of Istanbul National Conservatory. Whilst continuing her studies, she took active part in the masterclasses of Dimitri Baschkirov , Hans Leygraf, Vitaly Margulis, Mikhail Voskerzenski, Idil Biret, Sergei Dorensky and Hüseyin Sermet.
She was able to study with Professor Irina Zaritzkaya in London in 1994 with a scholarship awarded by the British Council when she received the second prize at the Young Musician of the Year Competition.
She was awarded the second prize at the Jugend Musiziert (Young Musician) competition held in Istanbul in 1986 and the first prize in the same competition held in Greece in 1988.
She was invited to Athens in 1997 to perform the works of a Turkish composer. The concert comprising the works of Yüksel Koptagel along with other composers from various countries was recorded in a compact disc. The pianist has performed recitals, chamber music concerts and as soloist with orchestras in many concert halls in Istanbul, Ankara, Bursa, Denizli, Mersin, Edirne, Thessalonica, Athens, Nürnberg, Girne, Berlin and made many radio and television programs.
She was invited to be a member of the Jury at the first Vedat Kosal National Piano Competition in 2015, to be a member of the Jury at the 11th International Pera Piano Competition and give masterclasses in 2016, to be a member of the Jury at the Ohrid Pearls International Piano Competition in Macedonia in 2016 and was invited to be a member of the Jury at the 12th,13th and 14th International Pera Piano Competitions 2017,2018 and 2019 and give masterclasses within the aforementioned. She was also invited to be a member of the Jury at the 1.Rhapsody Piano Competition. She is invited to be a member of the Jury at the Chopin 1st International Piano Competition for Children and Young Pianists in April 2020.
One of her goals is encouraging young pianists to grow with their musical education. Students of Eser Bilgeman Şakir are prize winners, laureates and finalists of national and international piano competitions. While she teaches and brings out young pianists of the future, she also performs in recitals, chamber music concerts and as soloist in orchestral concerts.
Currently, Eser Bilgeman Sakir teaches at the Istanbul University State Conservatory where she has been teaching since 1990 and as a Professor since 2007. She is also the Head of the Piano Department at the same institution since 2009.
