RULES OF THE VII INTERNATIONAL PIANO COMPETITION GALICIA-CIUDAD DE VIGO"

1.  The Galician Classical Music Association (AMCG) organizes the 7º International Piano Competition "City of Vigo", which will be held from 29th of April to May 2nd, 2023.

2.  The participants must be present at the evening of April 28th at 22.00 in Vigo, for the draw of performance in the next day. If they cannot be present, they must send to our organization a justified statement scanned, explaining the reasons, and the organization will decide if that is possible.

The order of performance of the participants will be maintained in subsequent rounds. The competition calendar will be as follows:

    •    From February 7th till April 1st: Registration

    •    From April 1st to 5th: First round, with video recordings / Jury deliberations

    •    April 6th: Communication to the ones who pass to the next round. 

    •    April 28th at 22:00 in Vigo: Presentation in Vigo and draw of order of participants.

    •    April 29th from 10:00 and from 16:00: Second round

    •    April 30th from 10:00 and from 16:00: Second round

    •    May 1st from 10.00 and from 16.00: Semifinal

    •    May 2th at 17.00: Final, jury deliberation and awards ceremony

3.  Pianists of any nationality, WITHOUT AGE LIMIT, can participate at the competition.

4.  To participate in our competition, candidates must register through our website, www.vigopianocompetition.com, attaching: Biography in English (in PDF format), a photo, a video recording through a single link from YouTube (max 15 min), and proof of payment. The deadline to register ends on April 1st, 2023, at 23:59 UTC+2 (Spanish time). When registering, the participant must receive an automatic confirmation email and on his/her screen, once he/she sends the form, the following phrase must appear: "Thank you, your submission has been received". If you have not received this email, please contact the organization at the following email: info@vigopianocompetition.com

5. The registration fee is 150 euros. However, if you register before March 20th, the fee will be of 125 euros. The transfer will be made to the following account number, specifying your name along with the transfer:

Fees and commissions will be covered by the participant, including those of PayPal. Once the payment of the registration fee has been made, the amount will not be refunded in any case.

6. The jury for the competition in Vigo will be composed of members with a recognized career. The jury is not obliged to award all the prizes and its decisions will be final. The prizes will be subject to the corresponding withholdings according to the current law.

7. The competition could record and retransmit all the rounds of the competition, and to exert the recording rights.

8. In case of a translation mistake in the rules, the Spanish rules will be taken as official ones.

9. The Organizing Committee may resolve or determine all those situations not contemplated in the present rules.

10. The registration implies the total acceptance of the rules of the competition.

11. The competition will consist of a First round (video recording); Second round, Semifinal and Final (in Vigo).

12. Organic Law 15/1999 on the Protection of Personal Data (LOPD). The personal data (including photographs, identity documents and images) that the contestants send, will be incorporated into a file owned by the Galician Classical Music Association, being used solely for the purposes of the Association's activity. In accordance with the LOPD, the rights of access, rectification, cancellation and opposition may be exercised by writing an email to the Galician Classical Music Association, amcg@musicaclasicagalicia.com or asociacionmusicaclasica@gmail.com.

13. During the competition it is totally forbidden to maintain contact or speak with the members of the jury.

14. Before the competition, sporadic masterclasses with any of the members of the jury will be allowed. However, contact via social networks, e-mail, telephone...etc with any of them, before the competition, will not be allowed. This could be a reason for exclusion.

15. Serious disrespect to the organization or any member of it, as well as breaking any of the rules, could be a reason for exclusion.

16. Underage participants must send a signed and scanned authorization from the father, mother or guardian, assuming any responsibility arising from their participation in it.

17. Several classrooms will be available for the practice of the participants from April 29th, the day of the semifinal. The classrooms will be FREE to use during all rounds of the competition.

18. To get to Vigo, there are 4 nearby international airports: Vigo, Santiago de Compostela, Porto and A Coruña. Another possible combination would be to arrive in Madrid or Barcelona and take another flight to one of the 4 previously mentioned airports. To get to Vigo from any airport, there are various combinations of buses, trains or even apps like BlaBlaCar or Amovens.

19. There is a hotel that will have a special price for our participants at the competition. 48 euros per person in a single room, and 34 euros per person in a double room shared with another competitor (69 euros the total double room), both prices with breakfast included. Those interested in making a reservation should send an email to reservas@hotel3luces.com and say that they are participants of our competition.

20. There will be 40 piano rooms for the practice of participants, since the 29th of April.

21. The official piano of the contest will be a Shigeru Kawai Grand Piano, of great quality.

DETAILS REGARDING THE PROGRAM, RECORDING OF YOUTUBE AND THE DIFFERENT ROUNDS OF THE COMPETITION

• The performance of own compositions will not be allowed.

• The performance of solo movements (sonatas, suites made up of works within... etc.) will be allowed.

• The program is of free choice.

• The performance of the contestants will not be cut during any round of the competition, unless they exceed the maximum time allowed.

• No member of the jury can vote for their students, relatives, friends or “enemies”.

• Participants must present their passport on the day of the draw in Vigo.

• All participants will be able to try out the piano of the competition before their performance.

• The winners have the obligation to collect their prizes personally at the closing ceremony and awards ceremony. Also, they must remain for the official photos that the organization will take, as well as be present in the interviews and press photos, before and after the final. If not, the award could be revoked.

• All participants will have free access to the competition events, including the final.

 

YOUTUBE RECORDING:

• Only 1 YouTube link should be sent, and it must be video (not audio only), without editing.

• It is not necessary to make a recording exclusively for the competition, but it can be a recording that they had already made previously, with a maximum of 2 years old.

• In the YouTube recording, one or several works performed on different dates can be performed.

• The program presented in the YouTube recording can also be performed during the other rounds

• It is recommended that the recording will be of good quality. Recordings of live performances are also allowed.

• Neither cutting nor editing of videos is allowed.

  

PROGRAM

First round : Video recording of a maximum of 15 minutes, consisting of one or several works of free choice.

Second round: Performance of a maximum of 12 minutes, consisting of one or several works of free choice.

Semifinal: Performance of a maximum of 15 minutes, composed of one or several works of free choice.

Final: Performance of a maximum of 35 minutes, composed of one or several works of free choice. Once the program has been sent, variations of it can only be made until April 5th, 2023.

The Jury may award the following prizes:

3000 euros and diploma

• Possibility to be jury member at next edition of the competition

SECOND PRIZE “DOS ACORDES”:

• 2000 euros and diploma

• 120 euros to participate in the Altalena Music Festival in Hungary in July.

 THIRD PRIZE "JUAN MONTES":

• 1000 euros and diploma

• 120 euros to participate in the Altalena Music Festival in Hungary in July.

“ROSA SABATER” AWARD, TO THE BEST SPANISH PIANIST:

• 100 euros and diploma

• 120 euros to participate in the Altalena Music Festival in Hungary in July.

 “PEPITO ARRIOLA” AWARD, TO THE BEST GALICIAN PIANIST:

• 100 euros and diploma

• 120 euros to participate in the Altalena Music Festival in Hungary in July.

CRISÓSTOMO ARRIAGA” AWARD, TO THE BEST CONTESTANT UNDER 20 YEARS OLD:

• 100 euros and Diploma

 SPECIAL PUBLIC AWARD “MARTÍN CÓDAX”, TO THE MOST VOTED PARTICIPANT IN THE FINAL:

• Diploma

“BACH” AWARD, TO THE BEST PERFORMER OF A WORK BY J.S. BACH:

• 100 euros and Diploma
